Searching eNepali
Search is how you find anything on eNepali — a local organization, a news story, an organization's post, a product, a photo gallery, or a well-known person. Type a few words and eNepali looks across the whole community at once, then lets you narrow the results by type.
Getting to search
The search screen works the same way on the web and in the mobile app: a search box at the top, with your results below.
- Open eNepali on the web at enepali.com, or open the mobile app.
- Tap or click the search box at the top of your feed.
- Start typing what you are looking for.
When you first open search, before you have typed anything, you will see a friendly prompt:
- On mobile, a large search icon with the heading "Search eNepali" and the line "Find organizations, news, and posts."
- On the web, a search icon with the reminder "Type at least 2 characters to search."
What you can find
One search looks across everything on eNepali at the same time. Your results can include:
- Organizations — local businesses, shops, and community organizations.
- News — both nearby news and Nepal news relevant to you.
- Posts — updates shared by organizations you can follow.
- Products — items listed by businesses.
- Photo galleries — image collections shared on eNepali.
- People and entities — well-known people and notable names, surfaced as suggestions while you type.
You do not need to choose a category before you search. Type your words once, and eNepali gathers matching organizations, news, posts, products, and galleries together. You can then filter with the tabs described below.
Suggestions as you type
As soon as you have typed at least 2 characters, eNepali offers quick suggestions in a dropdown under the search box. These help you jump straight to what you want without finishing the full search. Tap or click any suggestion to run the search for it immediately.
On mobile, suggestions are grouped into clearly labeled sections:
- Popular searches
- Organizations
- People & entities
- Posts
- News
- Products
- Galleries
On the web, the same kinds of suggestions appear, but as a single simple list under the box (each with its name and, where available, a short subtitle) rather than under section headings.
Search needs at least 2 characters to begin. If you type just one letter, nothing happens yet. On the web you will see the note "Type at least 2 characters to search." until you add more.
Here is the flow from typing to results:
Running a search
- Type your words into the search box.
- Either pick one of the suggestions, or run the full search:
- On mobile, tap the search key on your keyboard.
- On the web, press Enter.
- Your results appear below, organized into tabs.
To clear the box and start over, tap or click the × (clear) button at the end of the search box.
Filtering with tabs
Once you have results, a row of four tabs appears so you can focus on one kind of result at a time:
- All — a mixed view of everything found: organizations, news, posts, products, and galleries together.
- Organizations — only businesses and organizations.
- News — only news stories (nearby and Nepal news combined).
- Posts — only posts.
Tap or click a tab to switch. The All tab is the best place to start when you are not sure exactly what you want; the other tabs help when you are looking for one specific thing.
The four tabs, their labels, and the results are the same on both platforms. The main differences are small: on the web you press Enter to search and the search box placeholder reads "Search organizations, news, posts…"; in the mobile app you tap the search key on your keyboard and the placeholder simply reads "Search...". Products and galleries always appear inside the All tab on both platforms — there is no separate tab just for them.
Loading more results
Each tab shows a first batch of matches. To see more, simply keep scrolling — eNepali loads additional results automatically as you reach the bottom of the list, for whichever tab you are viewing.
When nothing comes up
If a tab has no matches, eNepali tells you plainly instead of leaving a blank screen:
- All tab: "No results found"
- Organizations tab: "No organizations found"
- News tab: "No news available" (mobile) / "No news found" (web)
- Posts tab: "No posts found"
Remember that each tab is filtered — one tab being empty does not mean the search found nothing. Check the All tab, or another tab, to see everything that matched.
If results cannot load (for example, a shaky connection), the mobile app shows a "Something went wrong" message with a Try Again button. Tap it to retry, or check your internet connection and search again.
Tips for better results
- Start broad, then narrow. Search a general term first, look at the All tab, then switch to a specific tab like Organizations or News to zero in.
- Use the suggestions. The suggestions under the box (Organizations, People & entities, News, and more) are often the fastest way to reach exactly what you want.
- Keep terms short and clear. A business name, a place, or a topic usually works better than a long sentence.
- Try a different spelling or a shorter word if you do not see what you expected.
- Type at least two characters — search will not start until you do.
When you allow eNepali to use your location, nearby organizations and locally relevant news can be surfaced more prominently in your results, so you are more likely to find what is close to you.
