Messaging (Kura-Kani)

Kura-Kani is where your private conversations on eNepali live: your chats with local businesses and organizations, your questions to event organizers, and — for some accounts — one-to-one chats with other people. This page walks you through starting a conversation, viewing your messages, getting real-time replies, and how private messaging differs from the public comments you leave on posts and news.

What Kura-Kani is

"Kura-Kani" (कुराकानी) means "conversation." It is the private messaging hub of eNepali. You reach it from the main navigation, and it opens on your list of conversations.

Kura-Kani has two tabs on every platform:

  • Conversations — your private message threads with businesses, organizations, event organizers, and (where enabled) other people.
  • Comments — a running list of the public comments you have left across the app, so you can jump back to any discussion. These are not private messages; see Messaging vs. public comments below.

In the mobile app, if reviews are turned on for your build, a third Reviews tab appears alongside Conversations and Comments. On the web there is no Reviews tab.

Sign in required

Kura-Kani is only for signed-in users. On the web, if you are not signed in you will see a prompt that reads "Sign in to view your conversations and comments." — sign in and you are returned to Kura-Kani. The mobile app shows a similar sign-in screen.

Viewing your conversations

Open Kura-Kani and stay on the Conversations tab. Each conversation shows:

  • The name and picture of the business, organization, or person.
  • The most recent message (or a "No messages yet" note if it is brand new).
  • The time of the last message.
  • An unread indicator when there are new messages you have not read yet. Unread conversations are also highlighted so they stand out.

Businesses you follow that you have never messaged also appear in the list, ready for you to start a chat. Tap or click any row to open the conversation.

Web vs App

The unread indicator looks a little different on each platform. The mobile app shows a WhatsApp-style circular badge with the number of unread messages. The web shows a small colored dot and puts the conversation name in bold; it does not display a number.

Searching your conversations

At the top of the Conversations tab there is a search box (labeled "Search conversations…" on the web, and simply "Search" in the app). Start typing to filter the list by name or by words inside your messages.

Filtering event chats

If you have ever written to an event organizer, a small filter appears with two choices, All and Events. Choose Events to see only your event-organizer chats and hide your general messages. The filter only shows up once you actually have an event conversation, and it is hidden while you are searching.

Messaging a business or organization

You can start a chat with almost any business or organization on eNepali.

  1. Open the business or organization's page.
  2. Tap or click the Message button.
  3. If the business is new to you, you will see a short welcome and the note "No messages yet. Start a conversation."
  4. Type your message in the box at the bottom and send it.

That is it — the conversation is created the moment you send your first message, and it then appears in your Conversations list.

Two ways in

You do not have to start from the business page. You can also open Kura-Kani and pick a business you follow directly from the Conversations list, then start typing. Both routes open the same single conversation with that business — you will never end up with two separate chats for the same organization.

Writing to an event organizer

Events on eNepali have their own private line to the organizer, kept separate from the organizer's general business chat.

  1. Open an event's detail page.
  2. Tap or click Write to Organizer.
  3. A chat opens that is clearly tied to that event — you will see the event's name in a small banner at the top of the conversation.
  4. Type your question and send it.

Because each event has its own thread, your question about one event never gets mixed up with a different event or with your general messages to that same organization. In your Conversations list these event chats are marked with a small ticket badge showing the event's name, and you can isolate them all at once using the Events filter described above.

One organizer, separate chats

If you have both a general chat with an organization and an event question for them, those stay as separate conversations. The event chat always shows the event banner so you know exactly which one you are in.

Sending messages and real-time replies

Inside any conversation:

  • Type in the message box at the bottom and send.
  • Your own messages appear on the right; messages from the business, organizer, or eNepali appear on the left with the sender's name.
  • New replies arrive in real time — you do not need to refresh. When you have the conversation open, incoming messages appear on their own.
  • When you open a conversation, its messages are marked as read and the unread indicator clears.
Web vs App

In the mobile app, a message from an organization carries a small ORGANIZATIONS tag next to the sender's name, and an official message from the platform carries an ENEPALI tag, so you always know who you are hearing from. The app also shows WhatsApp-style read ticks on the messages you send: a check that turns blue once the other side has read your message. The web version is simpler — it shows the sender's name but no sender tags and no read ticks, though opening a conversation still clears your unread indicator.

One-to-one chats with other people

Some accounts can also start a private chat with another eNepali user by email.

  1. On the Conversations tab, look for the Start private chat button (a floating button in the app; a button near the bottom of the list on the web).
  2. Enter the other person's email address.
  3. Choose Start conversation to open the chat.
Not available to everyone

The Start private chat option only appears if private chat is enabled for your account. If you do not see the button, this feature is not currently turned on for you. You also cannot start a chat with yourself, and the person must have an eNepali account.

The Comments tab

The second tab in Kura-Kani, Comments, is a personal record of the public comments you have posted around the app — on posts, news, products, photo galleries, and business pages.

  • Filter by content type using the chips: All, Posts, News, Products, Galleries, and Businesses.
  • Search your comments with the search box.
  • Sort by newest or oldest.
  • Tap any entry to jump straight back to that discussion.

The Comments tab holds only your comments — it is the same on the web and in the app. (In the mobile app, reviews you have written live in a separate Reviews tab, shown only when reviews are enabled for your build.)

Messaging vs. public comments

It is easy to mix these up, so here is the key difference:

  • Kura-Kani conversations are private. Only you and the business, organizer, or person you are chatting with can see them.
  • Comments are public. When you comment on a post, a news article, a product, or a business, everyone who can see that content can see your comment.

The Comments tab inside Kura-Kani simply gathers your public comments in one place for convenience — it does not make them private.

Where you'll find it on each platform

Web vs App
  • Both platforms have the Kura-Kani hub with Conversations and Comments tabs, the conversation search box, the All / Events filter for event chats, business chats, the per-event organizer chat, one-to-one private chat (where enabled), and real-time replies.
  • Mobile app only: a numbered unread badge, ORGANIZATIONS / ENEPALI sender tags and read ticks on messages, and a separate Reviews tab when reviews are enabled.
  • Web only: a dot-and-bold unread indicator instead of a numbered badge.
